The 31st winner of the 2000 Guineas, held on Tuesday 16th April 1839 over the Rowley Mile, was The Corsair (10/1), a black colt by Sir Hercules out of Gulnare, owned by the 1st Earl of Lichfield. The winner won by a neck, with 3/4 of a length between second and third. A field of just 3 runners contested the race, worth £1,450 (Equivalent to £148,000 in 2017)
